How it works

• A diode laser emits a single wavelength that is absorbed by melanin in the hair shaft.
• That light converts to heat inside the follicle, damaging the structure that regrows the hair.
• Only hairs in their active growth phase respond, and not all follicles are active at once — which is precisely why a course of sessions spaced weeks apart is necessary rather than optional.
• As coarse hair thins out, the blue-grey shadow under the skin softens, and the area reads visibly brighter.

Who it suits — and who it does not

• Anyone dealing with coarse underarm regrowth, stubble shadow, or darkening from shaving and plucking.
• Clients who get razor bumps or ingrown hairs and want to stop the cycle.
• Diode is generally the preferred platform for medium to deep Filipino skin tones, because its wavelength penetrates to the follicle while being calibrated conservatively at the surface.
• It is not suitable for very light, grey or white hair, which lacks the melanin the laser targets.

What happens in a session

1. Your therapist assesses your skin tone and hair type, and sets the energy level accordingly.
2. The area is cleansed and a cooling gel applied.
3. You will feel a warm snapping sensation with each pulse. An underarm takes only a few minutes per side.
4. Mild redness and warmth are normal and usually settle within a few hours.

Aftercare

• Avoid deodorant, heat and heavy sweating for about 24 hours.
• Do not pluck or wax between sessions — it removes the follicle the laser needs to target. Shaving is fine.
• Use sun protection if the area will be exposed.
• Expect shedding over the next one to two weeks; that is treated hair releasing, not regrowth.
